I had hoped to like Sekaiichi Hatsukoi ~ Onodera Ritsu no Baai~ by Nakamura Shungiku because I do like most things she's done (and I've seen squeeing over it online). Now that I've gotten my hands on it, I am delighted to say I love it. It's about Onodera Ritsu, who had worked as an editor in his father's publishing company until he had realized his co-workers resented his privileged position and had decided to work at another company and become successful there. He ends up being assigned to the shoujo manga department at his new company. The shoujo manga department is a special place full of special people, not the least the boss Takano Masamune. Ritsu's very stubbornness and unwillingness to show weakness or admit defeat makes him work hard to prove himself when Takano dismisses him as useless from the get-go. Things only become more complicated when it turns out that Takano is Ritsu's first love who'd broken his heart and messed up his sweet, open personality.
I love that it's about a crazy all-male shoujo manga editorial department whose members are very passionate about the manga they work on. I love how the other departments are freaked out by them. I love that Ritsu is spatzy and insanely stubborn...And knows it. I love that Takano is so obviously still in love with Ritsu but is able to be composed enough around Ritsu to manipulate Ritsu. I love how it seems that Takano will pile work on Ritsu and Ritsu will do it all because there is no "can't" in his vocabulary. I love that Takano and Ritsu have completely different accounts of what happened between them. I look forward to finding out what really happened. I also look forward to seeing Takano lose his cool more (he'd better!) and Ritsu finally admitting that he still loves Takano (I will enjoy seeing him being dragged kicking and screaming to that point). And the "countdown" till Ritsu falls in love at the end of chapters? Perfect!
I want more! When will the next volume come out? I tried looking for scans of recent chapters but have failed to locate any. ;_;
I know, isn't it the best? :D I don't know why there's not more love for it...has it even been scanlated? (I just checked--doesn't look like it.)
As for what happened the past, I think they're both (sort of) right about what happened; it's just that they were dumb teenagers who overreacted and then, over the years, mentally built up the significance of how each of them thought he was treated until it was like, EPIC TRAGEDY in both of their heads. (Which I love, because that is totally true to life.)
The problem is that it runs in The Ruby, which comes out like twice a year, I think, so it's going pretty slowly. (Although the chapters ARE ridiculously long.) I'm thinking it's going to be a one volume a year kind of release and the first one came out this summer, so...:/
I do get the magazine (except I forgot to buy the most recent issue -_-;;;), so if you can't find scans elsewhere, I can scan it; it's just that I won't be able to do it right away. (I'm hoping I'm going to get a new scanner for Christmas...)
I think Dangerous Pleasure has started scanlating it. I'm very glad, I hope more people discover it and fall in love with it.
I figured the same thing about the past. I love how Ritsu can't remember what happened so he can't for sure deny Takano's claim that he'd kicked him....Yet he still insists that he's right. They are so cute, those two.
Arg, I hate series that take forever to compile into tankobon. *sighs* Getting individual chapters can be so iffy if it's not an insanely popular series...Oh please share if I can't find existing scans! I want more, but as it sounds like it'll be almost a year before the next volume...The waiting, it is agony. :P
Oh, I'm glad somebody's scanlating it. I was kind of surprised, given how popular Junjou is. (Actually, I'm still surprised at how hard it can be to find Junjou raws. Even though Chinese scans are all over the place. -_-;;)
I'll be happy to scan it for you, just, like I said, I can't do it right away (since my old scanner won't connect to my new computer), so let me know if you find some scans elsewhere in the meantime.
Oh I just posted something in my journal today before I start checking friend page and found someone mentioning it. Right now there are 5 chapters out, with the 5th chapter out in The Ruby like mid Nov. http://rikiki-angel.livejournal.com/32891.html
I really really love this! Which chapters have you seen already? I only have Chinese translated scans of Chapter 1-4 if you want any.
Dangerous Pleasure has scanslated it? Finally!
The tankobon has up to chapter 2.5. Thanks for offering the Chinese scans, but I think they'd just frustrate me since I can't read them. ;_;
DP picked it up, but I don't know if they've actually released anything.

Cheer up! I think the next Tankubon will be out soon since they already have enough chapters for it. :D I hope they ship it here, but will most probably being held up in the Custom, even if they ship.
But I wonder, Nakamura-sensei is working on this in parallel to Junjou Romantica right? Or she put one on priority first? Which one?
I really think Junjou Romantica and Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi should be fused together (and come out in the anime). I love this story >w< . Since they mentioned Usami Akhihiko and they mentioned the manga Misaki loved so much. If sensei would draw them appearing somewhere then it's already together!
I hope they publish the next volume soon. I won't hold my breath for it, though. Sometimes they take a long time. :P
Too bad Customs doesn't let BL through. Do they confiscate everything?
Sekaiichi Hatsukoi comes out only a couple times a year, right? The deadlines must not be as bad as Junjou Romantica. It'd be nice to see at least one cross-over chapter.
No they don't confiscate everything. I'm not sure how they do it but the US licensed ones can get through easily and there's a lot of them. Those BL manga from Japan and China seem to be blocked and I don't see any in the store. There's just lots of shoujo stuff.
Last time my friend order BL manga(from Japan)from the bookstore and it was not approved by the Custom.
Ordering online might be a different story but I've never done it before.
