I've hit yet another online retailer with the most unfair shipping policy for Hawaii and Alaska. I was all set to buy something because there was free shipping on orders more than a certain amount, but in the shopping cart there was an asterisk with the note "continental US only." I clicked over to their shipping rate policy, and lo and behold for the continental US and APO addresses, shipping is $4.99 up to $49 and free above that. Hawaii and Alaska? $19.95 PLUS 15% of the amount. I understand that it is more expensive to ship to these two states, but seriously the difference is disgusting (FREE vs. MINIMUM $27!!!). I wanted to lodge a complaint via phone (so that I don't have to give my name/address/bleah bleah bleah the email form requires) but I realized I would not be able to leave a constructive complaint. *sighs* They lost my business, in any case. Even WITH the insane shipping I'd still come out ahead, but I don't want to support them with my money.
