I've been coming across eggplant hate lately. Whenever people pick a vegetable as an example of something they dislike, eggplant shows up a lot. I adore eggplants, and don't understand the specific hate. So please tell me...

I read this article once that said most ppl who hate eggplant have had it cooked badly, because it's bitter when not cooked through.

I don't think I've ever eaten bitter eggplant. Have I just lucked out and never gotten badly cooked eggplant, or have I always eaten badly cooked eggplant and have grown used to the flavor? :P

Eggplants are very tasty. My hate is reserved for okra and brussel sprouts. But I do try both every couple of years to see if my taste buds have changed their minds as they have on a number of other fruits and veggies.

I join you on the brussel sprout hate. I've only had it the way my mom made it, so I'm holding out hope that I'll come across some way of making brussel sprouts that I actually like...Seems unlikely, though.

I used to hate vegetales, and it was actually because of egg plants that I started eating them. I guess it's because grilled eggplant is always part of the menu when we have barbecue, so it's the first vegetable that I liked! ^_^

ps:

About the recipe... I love the way my late grandma used to make it. Just cut them up crosswise into thin slices (slightly diagonally if you want to make the diameter bigger). Or even lenthwise is fine too, doesn't really matter. All she did was dip it in soy sauce then pan fry it with olive oil. :D

Hmm...I think I'm pretty neutral when it comes to eggplant. Now squash on the other hand...

I can't even recall the flavor of squash. I'm sure I've had it before, too. Oh well.
