Happy New Year! [Jan. 4th, 2012|06:31 pm]

[Current Mood |awakeawake]

I can't believe how long it's been since I've engaged with anything much online. The last bit of 2011 was spent doing stuff with friends (good) and playing games on my ipad (bad bad bad). I seemed to have missed a bit of LJ drama? I guess I'll have to actually look at Dreamwidth since there actually seems to be even more migration now. My biggest hang-up is what to use instead of LJ for storing images. My problem with the usual suspects is that they don't like any kind of explicit images. *sighs*

I hadn't watched the last 7 episodes of Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, so in the guise of testing my new Blu-ray player (finally got one! more on that later) I finally watched them all. Will write more about it in another post, but I gotta say the Isaka/Asahina one was a bit tiring. Isaka is so young! So cliched! It was only my fondness of his older self that kept me watching, sadly. Glad that the rest of the episodes were all Takano/Onodera and Yukina/Kisa. I have so much to say about the Takano/Onodera stuff, but will save it for later. The only thing I want to say is...Yokozawa animated as he berates Ritsu forever gets old really fast. It's not that I don't get where he's coming from, to a certain point, but who appointed him as Takano's minder?!? And he's so blinded by his own desires he can't see the actual dynamics of Takano and Ritsu's current relationship. GAH. Seeing Takano firmly put him in his place was that much more sweet after that. I did buy his novel...while I have little faith in the writer's (non?)talent, maybe he'll come off better when he's not harassing other people so much. Oh, and I was glad to see that we get some clues that these couples actually engage in SEX instead of just fully-clothed, not-very-passionate kissing on beds. Look, a morning after where there are naked people in bed! I can't believe they animated that!

I want the next volume of the manga, already. *sighs*

I got a copy of the new Sherlock BBC episode! I haven't watched it yet, but I'm excited! Sounds like it was quite good. XDXD

I nodded along while reading this at NPR's Monkey See blog: The Big Bad Swap: The Problem With Replaced Music

First off, the evil evil games that sucked my life away:

SpaceMiner HD
Mahjongg Artifacts HD
Seige Hero HD

They were all free at the time I got them (thanks to helpful enablers friends who pointed them out to me). Extremely fun, extremely addictive, made me lose a lot of sleep. I need more self control.

I finally got a new router that not only solved my "only two things could be on the network at a time" problem, I now have coverage throughout my house. The previous one couldn't quite make it to the far end. It's also faster. It also meant my wifi printer stopped working because I had a new network and I couldn't access the online settings/queue site. I had to find a workaround...I still can't access the online settings/queue site, so I'll be in trouble if and when I have problems...But I won't think about that right now!

I also got a blu-ray player. It has wifi, so now I have access to Amazon, Hulu+, Netflix...All those things I don't need. I also tried to get the DLNA thing to work. First I tried to use Vuze since it was already on my computer, but while the blu-ray player recognized Vuze, Vuze did not recognize the player. Then I downloaded a trial copy of Twonky Media. It linked up fine, but the player can't play any of my files. Of course, when I copied a bunch of files to a USB drive and plugged it in the stupid player could play them. This is the kind of thing that drives me batty as a non-techie consumer. Why is it that the player can play a file via USB but NOT via DLNA? WHY? There may be a good technical reason but it sure is frustrating.

I actually kind of liked the Yokozawa novel (I have a thing for single fathers, though, so ymmv), though Yokozawa wasn't really on-board enough with the relationship by the end for my tastes. (But maybe understandable, considering how long he'd had a thing for Takano...) I guess I actually want to see a sequel? Considering how much I hate the Chiaki novels, that's saying something. XD

Oh, and I was glad to see that we get some clues that these couples actually engage in SEX instead of just fully-clothed, not-very-passionate kissing on beds.

lol so hard. I was re-watching parts of Junjou Romantica last weekend and it's like, wtf? They are having sex ALL THE TIME in that series, so I really don't get why they tried so hard to cut it out of this one. Bizarre.

Loved the scene in the rain, though--totally perfect.

I'm glad to hear you liked the Yokozawa novel, considering your burning hate of the Chiaki novels. When I find my copy (it's lost in a sea of random books) I won't fear it so much.

I don't know why these guys are so prudes compared to the Junjou guys. It's irritating, though. Why bother animating something full of sex when you cut it all out?!?

Loved the scene in the rain, though--totally perfect.

Yeah, they did a good job.

Re: Happy New Year!

There's got to be a way, though. What does everyone else do? Besides have their own server...

Re: Happy New Year!

That's what I used to have, but I am not renewing my domain, so I am losing that storage space as well.

Yay Sherlock 2. I think the series is good enough that even when we see something we don't completely like the rest still makes us come back and enjoy the couple.

I've tried to avoid spoilers, but I have seen less than positive reactions too. Hopefully I'll like it. It's been so long!

I think sometimes it falls a bit, but at least the general interest is quite strong.
