Hakkenden...hoping it'll get better... [Jan. 11th, 2013|05:56 pm]

From somewhere on my flist: thingswithwings live tweets Fellowship of the Ring amused me to no end.

I watched the first Hakkenden anime episode…and I'm faintly disappointed. First off, the obviousness of the CG water/smoke/fire/whatever KILLS me. Storywise, it's oddly disjointed. I'm hoping it'll smooth out in later episodes. Sosuke's voice threw me off. My question…what is the point of the anime? Didn't see Fuse-hime in the opening. Did see Ao, didn't see the tengu kid, didn't see those weirdo Church siblings (I think of the guy as "Ferragamo" though I'm sure that's not his name. The sister is Lilith, no?). What/who is the big bad? What will they overcome? I DON'T GET IT. But I'll keep watching.

I ended up rereading the 13 Tosuisha volumes afterwards. I do love Genpachi's butler--"There is a master of the house, he's just not around much." Yeah, you tell your master that he needs to allow his butler to serve him. XD;

What really bugged me was the scene where Murasame sort of appears out of nowhere as the tattoo on Shino's arm, and then comes out of his arm. Huh? He's supposed to be inconspicuous, not INVISIBLE. I hope it was just a one-off mistake, and it's not that the animators are going to be too lazy to ever show Murasame as the tattoo. :/

I also laughed that they left out Kenta thinking Shino's a girl, but it makes sense with who they have playing him. That voice couldn't really be mistaken for a girl's voice, haha.

What/who is the big bad? What will they overcome?

Which is worse: non-ending, or invented-by-the-anime-staff ending? (I'm a pessimist about anime adaptions, haha.)

Ugh, they both suck. I'm leaning towards the invented ending as worse because I've been burned by those more than the non-ending. My issue is that they have, what, 12 episodes to do...something. The first episode and the opening credits don't give me confidence that they have a really good something in mind, but maybe I'm just being too harsh. *sighs*

It's true, they do both suck. As a manga fan I agree that the invented ending is worse, but non-endings must be worse for people with no access to the source material (I remember those days...).

Anyway...like you, I'll keep watching this anime, though I don't have a lot of faith I'll end up liking it. At least it might introduce new fans to the manga, which is a good thing.

This is why I am so tempted to wait for the anime series to end before I watch it ._. I want to know how it ends first.

Yeah....that might be the better plan. If it doesn't go anywhere I just might lose interest and stop watching instead of sticking with it to the bitter end, though. :P
