|Lately I've been obsessed with food. Thus I post about food.

I finally went to the big farmer's market on the island this past weekend. It was awesome! Lots of fairly cheap, tasty produce, but beyond that some great prepared food as well. Had my very first beignet ("a French doughnut being a pastry made from deep-fried dough and sprinkled with confectioner's sugar" per Wikipedia) and it was divine. Deep fried dough is too wonderful for words. I already adore malasadas ("a fried dough from Sao Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal which are also popular in Hawaii and in Cape Cod" per Wikipedia) but the confectioner's sugar....it made me choke but it was sooo worth it. Also, deep fried risotto. *_*
I finally bought a loaf of sourdough bread after wishing I was buying sourdough every time I bought whole wheat bread for months and months. First I tried it with aged cheddar cheese. Meh. Then I tried it with a goat cheese spread with jalepinos, lime, and chiles. Meh again. Finally, I tried it with butter. Pure gold! It's sad how the simple things sometimes are the best, but we only think to try it after several failures.
Home-made granola is genius. And so easy. I found a recipe that uses maple syrup, and with my handy (and tasty) grade B maple syrup that was not being used (I was not happy with the frozen waffles I'd tried) it was a match made in heaven. I already had brown sugar, cinnamon, oil, and salt. I've discovered that rolled oats are dirt cheap. DIRT CHEAP. Granola with bananas and yogurt and raisins make such a filling yet tasty breakfast...I forgot to buy peanut butter to make granola and peanut butter balls, unfortunately. :P
