I was itching to watch something so I finally bothered to watch the rest of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.
I’m glad I put off watching the rest because I could watch the stuff with Tsubaki without wanting to hurl something at the screen. My hate for her has calmed down, now I just want her to not be on the screen. :P
The melodrama was…a bit much. The best parts were naturally the parts to do with the music, especially the performances. Lovely, lovely bits, and seeing Kousei grow was great. Wish the rest of it was toned down and more was devoted to everything to do with music. Ah well. Overall, I enjoyed the series once the abuse of the beginning went away.
All the little kid flashbacks are always so cute. The art does adorable so well! Too bad seeing Tsubaki and Kousei together made me like Tsubaki less. Why the hell did she abuse Kousei so much if she knew him so well? Ugh. I rather Kousei got together with ANYONE ELSE (EMI?? NAGI?? TAKESHI??? ANYONE!!!). She’s just so…blah. Even Watari and the other girl are so much better as characters. Less despicable.
I don’t know what to think about Kaori dying, and her letter. I disliked the whole sick girl who looks good to the end business (some thread or review I read called it a Korean drama cliche, how true), especially since her being sick meant she couldn’t play any music. Despite my dislike for the trope, her struggles with her illness (what the hell did she have, anyways?) made me like her more. She seemed less manic pixie dream girl and more real, you know? I thought her “lie” was such a plot device, but the reveal at the end of the series was very well done (and the tie in with the title is very neat). The different version of the first ending song with the violin was so appropriate. Also, Kaori was *such* a round thing! That hair! So not right for her because it made her look like a dumpling. ^^;
I think I enjoyed the duet with Nagi more than the last performance. Not sure why. Maybe the magically appearing Kaori was too much? Not that it was bad, just that I purely enjoyed the duet more. Also, Nagi is adorable! She and her brother are so cute. It’s odd how the pressure she felt before the culture festival didn’t include mention of her awesome brother, though.
I want to know what happens next to Kousei. I want to see more of his struggles as a musician along with Emi and Takeshi and whoever else appears. I want to see normal musician struggles, not life-and-death melodrama. Alas, I will not get any of that.
